Just a heads up since it isn't mentioned anywhere. You can get a good 300 gems from following people who are following you.
If you happen to go on quests with them you get extra bonuses such as gems, random behemoth quest summons(usually shadow and like 20-30 levels above you), and a whole host other items and perks.
The same applies for lounges too. Most people have no clue that playing this game as a group with 3 other good friends is extremely beneficial.
