Help for a beginner

I recently brought this dragon fruit and it's currently thriving. However, I've read that they need to growbtall first before letting them branch out. However as you can see in the picture, the top of the main stem was cut before being sold. Can I get any advice on how to proceed? Any advice would be helpful.
