Emma-comp LVolk guide
Post Body

UPDATE 2/3/2021: As of the last version update in DL, this strat can no longer be used in LVolk due to element-locking of dragons. Best of luck to everyone looking to clear!

It's been a few days since Legend Volk came out, so I'm not sure how many people need or want it at this point, but I noticed no one had actually written up a guide for the Emma/HLowen/Ezelith/Ezelith Legend Volk 'cheese' comp (at least not that I've seen here). I hesitate to call it a cheese, since it's not a 90-second clear like the Marth comp, and using off-element dragons on healers or buffers isn't exactly unprecedented (HLowen in eVolk originally ran PSiren, and Patia in mKY often uses Peng Lai for bog), but it does skip several mechanics in the fight, including the Berserk phase if you do it right. However, for anyone who plays primarily in pubs rather than premade groups with decent communication abilities, it can be hard to know what you're supposed to do or what you're doing wrong. I've been using this comp in pubs, and I've cleared at least once as every character involved, so hopefully I have some insight. Note that since I don't actually play with premade groups, there are probably some parts that are not optimal in terms of skill rotations, etc.--however, they do reflect the pub experience, since the lack of communication in pubs means it can be difficult to improve on something you're doing wrong.

In this guide I'll include, for each character, the build, rotations as I've done them, and common things to look for in teammates that will spell difficulty for your team. Be sure to always check the builds of every player that joins, because differences in builds can change how you have to play or can cause major problems for the run. Without further ado:

Emma

Build: Gaibhne and Creidne (MUB), Void lance, Chocolatiers/The Rose Prince/Indelible Summer/Bellathorna/From Whence He Comes, Patia THope Skill Shares. Backline Yuya or HMym/Euden/Bow.

This build is best because Void Lance Chocolatiers gives you 100% Skill Prep to start with. The Rose Prince Indelible Summer will give you 100% stun res, the two buff time prints give you an additional buff time affinity bonus. The backline is focused on dragon haste and skill haste (HMym and Yuya have the dragon haste CCA, Euden has dragon haste as both coability and CCA, and Sarisse's skill haste helps get your skills up quickly). You want two def buffs as your skill shares for doublebuffs on your Ezeliths. Note that G&C should be MUB since that increases the rate of skill recharge when the buff zone is down. A non-MUB G&C tends to charge skills a little too slowly. I've never had a successful pub run with a non-MUB G&C, although it's probably possible in premades with a little coordination.

One issue I've found is that some pub players don't recognize the value of the Void lance and prefer you to use the Agito lance. If you're having trouble with people sticking with your low-might Emma, you can use the Agito lance. In that case, simply swap the Chocolatiers print for something with Force Charge, like Sister's Day Out. In terms of pub Emmas, I haven't encountered many major issues, but definitely check prints and skill shares just in case.

In terms of gameplay, Emma's job is to spam buffs. I prioritize the def buffs over the STR buff, since they'll trigger doublebuff action and have longer cooldowns and (especially the skill shares) much shorter animations). You need coordination with HLowen to alternate buff zones from G&C (more below).

HLowen

Build: Gaibhne and Creidne (MUB), Void staff, The Rose Prince, Indelible Summer, Jewels of the Sun, Seaside Memory, Dragon's Nest, Patia THope Skill Shares. Backline Yuya or HMym/Euden/Bow.

This build is functionally the same as what Emma runs. The Void staff gets you to 100% skill prep, and then it's focused on skill haste (the prints will give you the skill haste affinity bonus). Similarly to Emma, if you don't run the Void staff, you can use Agito and replace Seaside Memory with Rogue's Banquet. Note that in pubs, some HLowens will run a dragon haste print (like Blossoms on the Water's Edge) instead of Indelible Summer, and let Emma handle the stun orbs. There are also some HLowen that run buff time prints rather than skill haste (which is fine), and drop Dragon's Nest for Bellathorna (slightly less fine). Having DPrep on HLowen helps a lot with getting the first G&C out on time, but it's possible to clear without it. If you're running with a no-prep HLowen, be aware that Ezelith's DPS will need to be more on point.

Definitely check the skill shares and prints of any HLowen that joins you. I've encountered several that are using healing Skill Shares (will cause major problems in run), and you need to be aware of their print setup to know how to adapt your gameplay around them.

In terms of gameplay, your job is basically the same as Emma: pump out def buffs from S1/S3/S4. Hold your S2 for if someone needs an emergency heal, or to clear plague during Phase 1. You'll want to alternate G&C buff zones with Emma (see below).

Ezelith

Build: Mars (MUB), Agito dagger (8UB ideally, but 4UB has worked for me at least once), Twinfold Bonds/Felyn Hospitality/Brothers in Arms/His Clever Brother/Halidom Grooms. Skill Shares: Karina (Level 4) and Xander (Level 4). Backline HMym/Megaman/Blade.

The goal of this build is to take advantage of the unlimited buff stacking damage on Karina and Xander's skill shares. They should both be spiraled at least to 56 to have the upgraded version of the skill. Your prints should be crit damage and STR doublebuff to take advantage of the def buffs coming from Emma and HLowen. If you don't have Felyn Hospitality, I don't think you can do this build. I've never had success with an Ezelith not using the crit damage doublebuff, as it will count as an additional buff for Xander/Karina SS and her S1 will get her to a high natural crit rate. I've had an OK time with Sakuya Ezelith instead of Mars, but it relies on the HLowen and Emma doing a good job of alternating G&C so that there's fairly constant buff zone uptime and no need to shift to Mars.

Ezelith tends to be where pub builds have the most problems. There are major issues with wyrmprints on a number of Ezelith players, many of whom insist on equipping burn punisher* (WHYYYYYYY). Don't run with the burn punisher* people (they usually won't swap prints, and often won't leave). There's another subset who have the Agito weapon skill equipped rather than either Karina or Xander SS. Again, this will fail. Don't run with the people who aren't using Karina Xander SS as there won't be enough damage. Finally, there's a subset that are using the Lv3 version of Xander's skill. This one isn't as huge a deal, since Xander only gets 16% skill damage on his SS from the spiral upgrade. His Lv 4 skill also inflicts Frostbite, but so will Karina's and the other Ezelith so it should be mostly fine. The important part of Xander's skill, the buff scaling at 5% SD per buff, is the same between Lv3 and Lv4. Lv4 does have a higher SP cost, but since most of your skill recharge comes from G&C buff zones, it's not a problem.

In terms of gameplay, Ezelith wants to make sure her S3 and S4 hit as hard as possible. I use S1 first to get to 100% crit rate, then S3 and S4 for max damage. S2 is used when I'm recharging skills using standard attacks. Shapeshift only during downtime from G&C buff zones (there shouldn't be a lot of downtime), and try to exit as quickly as possible--the main goal of shapeshifting is to use Mars' skill recharge passive. Sakuya can be used on one Ezelith if necessary, but you may encounter more issues if Emma and HLowen have bad coordination. I honestly think Ezelith has the easiest job here, since she's basically just a skill factory. Emma and HLowen have a much harder job of coordinating dragon and leaving dragon quickly to keep buffs up.

Gameplay

Emma and HLowen need to be able to coordinate dragon, which can be hard to pull off in pubs. Emma and HLowen basically want to just spam buffs during Phase 1. At the start clump up to bait Volk to the center, then roll out and let HLowen clear plague with S2. At that point, Emma and HLowen drop as many buffs as they can before Ravenous Claws, and the Ezeliths get their skills up. Once the orbs appear, Emma and HLowen should pop them (helps recharge their buffs), while the Eze get out as much damage as possible before Pestilent Wind. I recommend Emma and HLowen hang on to their def buffs after the first cast so that there's a fresh start on buffs after the Spin Attacks to help facilitate the Karina/Xander SS damage. Most of the damage during Phase 1 will happen during Resentment. Play the Spin Attacks as normal, and once Volk reappears, Emma and HLowen should drop the buffs they hopefully saved, while Ezelith goes S2 --> def down --> S1 --> S3 --> S4.

Hopefully before Eze's SS uses, there will be a lot of buffs up so that the 100% crit, high crit damage, high buff number S3 and S4 uses will do a lot of damage and trigger dragon for Emma/HLowen. At this point, one of them should dragon. Ideally, Emma will dragon and HLowen will not. HLowen should be baiting during Resentment, while Emma should dragon, drop the buff zone in the center slightly towards HLowen, and then try to get hit to get out of dragon ASAP and keep buffing. Ideally, the buff spam skill recharge will let the Ezeliths kill Phase 1 quickly, before Resentment ends.

During Phase 2, Emma/HLowen's role is basically the same as Phase 1. Keep pumping out the buffs, don't get plagued and/or stunlocked, and alternate G&C shapeshifts with HLowen. Two G&C buffs zones down at the same time is actually a problem here, since it means both Emma and HLowen will likely be stuck in dragon rather than buffing, and Ezelith can't use the skills quickly enough. There needs to be a G&C shapeshift ready to go at or just before break, or your break damage will likely be too low. Either HLowen or Emma can do this, but I've had the best luck with HLowen taking that shapeshift and letting Emma focus on buffing during break. Ezelith's job between the start of Phase 2 and break is also pretty simple: keep up damage with the S1 to S3 to S4 rotation, using S2 when the other skills are on cooldown. You'll want to shapeshift if your skills are out and there's no G&C zone available, and avoid shapeshifting when there is a buff zone down, since that wastes both the shapeshift and the buff zone. Ezelith should keep an eye on the OD bar, and try to have S1 going already right at break, so there's time for S3 and S4 during break (her S1 animation is very long and can lead to low damage if you get stuck in it at the wrong time). But again, you want that 100% crit rate.

Ideally, shapeshifts will go something like:

1) Emma during Resentment Phase 1

2) HLowen at/during Phase 2 first Overwhelming Hunger/Dash, although some HLowens will shift right as Phase 1 ends, and that can be successful as well.

3) Emma, after HLowen's buff zone ends, before Lunatic Judgement

4) HLowen, just before break

5) Emma, as break is ending

After break, there should be relatively little HP left and Emma/HLowen should have plenty of dragon after the break damage. They should keep alternating buff zones and have Ezeliths keep spamming skills to kill him before Berserk Mode starts. If you see the 4-way Snapping Squalls, your damage is likely too low and you most likely won't make it, since Berserk starts right after the 4-way.

Hopefully this helps! I know it ended up pretty long, but it does cover most of what I've learned from playing all 3 roles over the last several days. Again, this is all learned in pubs with little to no communication, so if there's something your discord/premade group does differently feel free to drop it in the comments!
