So a scene which we don’t see on screen is…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
how they informed Mary of Matthew’s death (sorry for the weird formatting, I’ve never made a post regarding such a crucial spoiler and I wanted to be extra careful that I didn’t accidentally spoil it on that preview of the post description that Reddit places underneath the title)
How long do you think they may have waited to tell her? Who would have delivered the news? Isobel would usually be an obvious candidate to handle such sensitive matters, but given that Matthew was her son, she may have been too traumatized. Anna seems a bit too impersonal for such a life changing event despite their friendship, so I’m assuming Cora or Robert? And regarding the baby, would they have had to keep him distanced from Mary while the worst of the grief passed, and for how long?
Speculate how the rest of Downton reacted as well, from the upstairs folks to the downstairs servants.
This has always been a major source of curiosity for me since it’s arguably the most impactful moment on the show yet the main aftershock of it is essentially skipped over once season 4 commences.
