Update on travel advice for China and information for UK citizens in China
The spread of the 2019-nCoV, also known as the coronavirus, is continuing in China, last week we brought all British citizens home from the epicentre of the outbreak, Wuhan. We are aware that there are a lot of British people in other areas of China, areas that are starting to get more affected.
In the statement made by the Foreign Secretary on Monday, January 27th, the Foreign Secretary told the House of Commons that the travel advice was updated to advise against all travel to the Hubei Province, this travel advice still stands.
The Foreign Office has today decided to change the travel advice for all of mainland China to advise against all but essential travel there, because of the spreading of the coronavirus.
Further, the Foreign Office, advises every British citizen in China to leave the country if you’re able to. The spread of the virus in China is continuing and more and more cities are being locked down.
Some Asian countries and in other parts of the world have announced travel restrictions for travellers who have been in the Hubei Province or elsewhere in mainland China. Check the Foreign Office website for the latest information about travel advice. If you’re affected by these changes or are in need of more information, please contact the local immigration authorities, embassy, high commission or consulate of the country you’re planning to travel to.
