#Statement from the Northern Ireland Office on talks with the Executive
On Friday afternoon the SoS for Northern Ireland u/Maroiogog and the Prime Minister u/Secretary_Salami met with the Northern Irish Executive to discuss policy objectives.
The first point of discussion were the Harland and Woff shipyards. The negotiations between the Exec. and the workers reached a compromise in a joint-venture between the state and a private shareholder. This offer was accepted by the ministers present and later by the Chancellor. The Westminster government is now starting to consider the many options it has long term once this joint-venture happens. 2 of the options being considered are retraining the workers to perform other jobs or investing in the asset in order to then resell it on the market. Once this process has ended the plan is to look for a private firm willing to chip into it as agreed with the workers and the Executive.
The Executive also presented to the government their plan for a project of investment in infrastructure in Northern Ireland. They argued that due to the political instability of the region during the past few decades no long-term projects had been started or completed. The Sunrise coalition. after discussing the costs of said plan, concluded that it will most likely be viable. The executive will now begin talks with the Irish Government about the project, as it much of the infrastructure planned crosses into their borders. Once this process has been concluded the hope is that investment in Northern Ireland will flourish.
The government also reassured the Executive that it had no plans to cut the block grant below the level it was set at in the past budget, and that any money going to the special infrastructure projects would be provided ontop of that.
