Can't play custom games with friends

Me and my friends have been trying to play some custom games, such as Crumbling Island Arena, Dota Imba and a few others.
Everytime someone tries to join the lobby it either comes up with just an error message with no text but "Error" or it comes up with "Lobby is Full" even though there is no one in the lobby.
Not sure whats causing this, but if anyone knows any soloutions it would be greatly appreciated.
We are trying to play on Australian Servers.
