I have been thinking this for a while but recently I've realised that the game isn't going to change. The problem isn't the game it's the sort of people that play it. I don't know what has happened to the meta but I really think the game is terrible state for support players.

I just want to say that according to Yasp. I am best playing as a safelane carry. But the I rarely play it. I mostly play support. That's because if I pick a core hero. We'll end up with 5 cores on my team. So I usually pick support just to make sure we have a support. And I'm sure if you're reading this you know what I am talking about.

But this leaves me in most of my games in a position where I have to buy wards, sentries, courier, upgrade, tangoes (give 2 away) and maybe a smoke by 3 minutes in every game. And this means warding suffers. Especially with all the shadow blades, so I'm probably going to be buying an early gem too. I don't know what happened to 2 supports every game, but it's become a memory of a better time. Of an age long past. A relic more sacred than the inventory of a Spectre at 18 minutes.

And the game just isn't enjoyable anymore. Getting yelled at because you're saving for a bracer or getting yelled at because you skip the bracer, buy a ward and die trying to place it. Because as every dedicated support player knows, no-one will follow you place it.

People scream "You can't win without wards!" when you have 25 gold and they are a Spectre sitting on 3200. Everyone knows how important support jobs are but no-one wants to do them. It is imperative that the team has wards, as long as they don't have to buy them.

Then at 10 minutes you save 150 to buy Tome and the midlaner insta-buys it, so you're stuck at level 5 forever.

And DotA has always gone through these waves of terrible metas. Axe Jungle, Legion Jungle, Roaming Riki etc. But these always got better. But it's at the point now where it isn't every few games. It's every game. It usually get's better but it's just been getting worse for the last 3 patches. I'm starting to think that this is just the game now.

Every game support players have to decide between just enjoying the game and doing whatever we want, or picking support and dealing with a bunch of arrogant core players.

A lot of people reading this wont care. And that's fine, no-one says that you have to but I play Eve: Online and we realised something recently when the numbers started to plummet: If you have no problem becoming so toxic that you force players out of the game. Then eventually, you will kill your game.
