Does having a 4:3 resolution still has a disadvantage?

I really have a low end pc, and I really want to play dota 2. I can run it on the lowest resolution but on the highest it just lags. So, is there still a disadvantage like before? I was expecting they will fix this on reborn. If there is a disadvantage, would you, yourself, consider this game-losing or something that really pulls me down?
