Storytime! lol
I was outdoor dashing a few days ago, and need some cash pretty bad right now.
It's around 2100, pretty dark out, and I'm dashing in east Tennessee.
I live about a good, 20-30 minute drive from the center of my market, but the dash area encompasses a very wide land mass, which includes where I live. I normally don't ever get any orders at my house, I usually just start dashing and head towards the hotspots in the city center.
Well this time as soon as I start leaving my driveway, I get an order. Pickup right where I am and 3 miles down. Cool
That dash was awesome, started heading to my normal area again and I got another order pretty close by.
Grab it and head towards the house. Now, because I'm so far away from any city areas all the houses are rural and I'm surrounded by mountains. It's super dark out and hard to see. I get to the customer's house, and the first thing I notice is there's a jeep blocking the entrance to the driveway, but there's enough room for me to at least pull in and park off the road. The second thing I noticed, the place was very poorly lit, and a ton of random things everywhere. Everything from decorations to equipment, to literal trash. This place was a dump. Now I'm not a judgemental person, normally that stuff would not have bothered me at all. And at first pull-in, it didn't bother me at all.
Here's when my senses started to take note of the state of the place and started to bother me.
The order said "Hand it to me" Okay fine, I walk down the very poorly lit area trying to avoid various land mines, almost tripping several times, twisting through the various field of crap and I get to the house after almost a minute.
The house looks like it should be condemned. In an extremely poor state. There wasn't even a front door. Literally, anyone could just walk right in. The inside was in worse a state of junk than the outside.
So I started yelling out "Hello! Anyone home? hello!" I'm there for at least 2-3 minutes trying to find someone.
not a soul in sight.
I sent a text to the customer stating that I was there, looking for them.
nothing.
I called them through the app
no answer.
I'm starting to hear weird noises all around me.
Starting to freak out since I can't see shit, mountains all around me, and not a single soul anywhere close by me.
I started the process of doing alternative delivery methods but the stupid app had me wait 5 minutes before it allowed me to take a picture and complete delivery... Im freaking out big time. I'm hearing noises, like someone walking around out there.
then my car lights turn off.
This REALLY freaks me out. I had intentionally set my lights on always on from the normal "automatic" mode because I needed light to see the path to get to the house, and my car was parked at a perfect angle to illuminate what I needed.
it was now pitch black, aside from the super low light from the various solar lights they had placed all around the property.
and a blue hue coming from inside the house that illuminated just barely the doorless entry to the home.
Literally had to sit there and wait in sheer panic mode for 5 frecking minutes before the app let me take a picture and complete delivery while I'm hearing walking noises, no responses, car lights shutting off, and various other freaky shit happening.
when I finally completed delivery I got to my car, and for some weird reason, I COULDN'T "T BACK OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY!
My damn car was stuck!!!
I'm freaking out, thinking someone intentionally blocked my tires or something.
for whatever reason my body screamed do not get out just force it.
I drive a Challenger, so she's got plenty of power and torque. So I kept rocking forward, then slamming it in reverse, burning as much rubber as I could each time to finally launch my car out of the driveway.
let me tell you when I finally pointed the front of my car away from that house, I burned rubber through those windy mountain roads at an EXTREMELY unsafe speed, so far I was scaring the shit out of me! (I'm a very fast, aggressive driver I have racing blood in me and I race my car for fun, so when I tell you I AM SCARING MYSELF BY MY AGGRESSIVE DRIVING take that with some super heavy weight!) I could not get away from that place fast enough!
So, this obviously wasn't "that" scary since nothing bad happened, but realize I don't get scared easily at all. I've never been in a situation where I was literally terrified.
I used to work for the City of Detroit. I've been in VERY dangerous areas, downtown Detroit at the crack of dawn, the ghetto at 2 am, not once, not a single time had I have ever been scared, until that day in the mountains of Tennessee!
