Got any travelling tips for me?
Post Body

We will be moving states at some point in the not-too-distant future. Me, my husband, 2 cats and Pancho the donk. We have a breadbox trailer and Pancho has no issues loading as it's his day house anyway. We have done a few short day trips over the years, but I want us all to really get used to moving and grooving and camping and adventuring before we take this epic, multi-state journey. Ease into the lifestyle.

I went to check out our nearest park's equine campsite and it was, hmm... not that impressive. The corral looks secure enough and there is a big turn around drive. But the floor was just gravel, which didn't seem too great to sleep on. The sign there said to remove all poop and hay. I can see that. But I did notice some errant straw on the ground. Would people bring straw as bedding and then pull it up and store it for the ride to the next place?

Also a friend gave me a set of hobbles but I don't think Pancho would take to them. He is spicy about things like that. So sans corral, how would you camp out with your donkey?

How do I even go about planning the long trip? Where do I find places to stay along the way? Any other advice?

We camp (hunting camp) with our donk, he spends up to two months in the mountains. High lines, hobbles, portable pens β€” all good options. All are worth training your donk to work with too! Hobbled aren’t as scary as they initially look and donkeys are pretty understanding.

Professional haulers are a great choice for the actual move, the ones we have used have everything from air conditioning to luxury stalls.

As for camp sites, people often dump straw and hay at them (as well as the plumbing in their living quarters trailers 🀒)
