We hired a new part-time driver a couple months ago. We were pretty excited because he's already experienced from working at other Dominos stores and our store has been so under staffed. We couldn't have been more disappointed.
Dude wears headphones constantly. Won't interact with anyone. When you do have to talk to him he's just a jerk. He won't answer phones or help with dishes. He really just hides in the bathroom or folds boxes. He calls out about one shift a week.
The GM didn't like him from the start, but the DM will not let us terminate anyone. So the GM cut him back to just two shifts, and he was a no-call no-show for both. So finally, he's done, he's removed from the system, he's ineligible for re-hire.
Then he calls the store Monday to ask when his next shift is. They told him to come in today. Yep. The DM wants him back on the schedule. I understand that our staffing issues really suck right now, but I am so pissed over this.
I started in January of 2021, but had worked 3 years in other stores. I busted my butt to be the best driver I could be. I volunteered to work 50-60 hour weeks, O-C shifts, 6 day weeks, whatever was needed. I took the initiative to do extra cleaning in the store. No one cleans the employee bathroom, so I bought cleaning supplies and started cleaning the bathroom once a week. I was jumping on oven and makeline as needed. The entire time thinking that I had a real shot at becoming the lead driver or even a driver/shift lead hybrid. Finally even talked to the DM and stated that I wanted to move up and take on more responsibility. But nothing.
I really burnt out around the holidays. I was really sick for a couple weeks, but couldn't get them to cut back my hours or anything to get a break. The DM and his favorite AM were also sick. They both called out. Then there was nothing at all for the employees at Christmas. I was shocked because this store had such a great reputation for taking care of employees, and all of previous stores had given holiday bonuses. But it turns out that we can't get so much as a verbal thank you.
The DM explained that they used to have big holiday parties for the entire franchise, renting a venue and everything. But since no one thanked him for doing it, they stopped. Excuse me? You did something to thank your employees, but stopped because they weren't vocal enough about thanking you for thanking them?
I recently gave notice that I'm only available for 30 hours a week. I stopped doing all the extra stuff. And I'm looking for something else.
