Gift card scans are rampant
Post Body

My store has been getting a lot of gift card scams and I feel bad I can't stop these old people from getting scammed. They always tell me it's a gift for their grandkids or it's a Christmas present when they're buying a $500 apple gift card. No matter how many questions I ask they have an answer that makes me stop asking questions. Twice now they've revealed it's actually to pay someone online AFTER the transaction is complete.

The first woman said it was to pay customs for a package and I told her US customs would never need an Apple gift card. She looked at me like I was the dumbest person she had ever met and walked away. The other one was today. This woman is like mid 40s so not old. She buys a lot of gift cards but they are usually small amounts. Today she got a $90 razr card and I asked what can you do with these? Sort of asking what she was going to do with it without actually asking because they get offended if I do that. She said she buys games with it and uses it online.

She comes back half an hour later and says when she typed in the code to pay her bills with it online it told her the card is fake. I had to explain to her she just got scammed and I felt horrible. This woman just lost her money and she probably was all along. If I ask too much they get mad and not enough they get scammed.

Sorry for the giant wall of text. This is just very frustrating. How much do you ask? Have you noticed an uptick in people buying high value cards often?
