My puppy’s barking has been incessant and I don’t know what to do. We’ve finished a level one puppy training course and the instructor recommended reverse time outs any time he barks. I’ve been practicing this and I haven’t noticed a difference. He’ll stop barking and I’ll come back in the room and tell him “good quiet” and give him a treat. He barks when he’s excited. He barks when new people come over. He barks at people passing by in the window. It’s not aggressive, it’s always either demand barking or he wants to play with whatever or whoever is walking by. He barks in his stroller on our walks at dogs and people when he gets excited. We have one more week until he’s fully vaxxed and can walk on the ground. Last night I felt like I was going to lose my mind. He’s crate trained and has been really good about sleeping through the night. He whines and wakes up around 6am and if I don’t get up in time, he barks. I can deal with that. But last night he was possessed, took him maybe fifteen minutes of straight barking until he settled himself. I finally decided to ignore it as he had eaten, had gone out to potty, had his toys in his crate, there was nothing he physically needed from me. He woke up every hour barking for maybe five minutes straight while I ignored him before settling himself. I’m going on zero sleep and I’m at my wit’s end. I reached out to a personal dog trainer and am waiting to hear back. Does anyone know what I can do in the meantime? I got a golden thinking they weren’t barkers, but this guy barks more than any dog I’ve ever met.
