Sudden Ankle biting problem

Post Body

I adopted a 10 month old hound mix about 3 months ago. The entire time I’ve had her she’s never been mouthy, but all of a sudden about a week ago she’s become a compulsive ankle biter, nipping at both my family members and any new person she meets.

She does it to me (her primary caretaker) the least, and my brother, who used to play rough with her before the ankle biting, the most. I have been working on “leave it” to get her to stop and she’ll listen for about 15 seconds and start again until I finally need to do a collar grab and drag her away from the person.

I know she’ll eventually grow out of it but is there anything else I can do to correct the behavior and stop her from getting totally out of control? Once she starts she gets wound up quickly and it’s difficult to get her to calm down.
