Our Puppy Seems shy and distant.

Hello fellow dog owners I hope all is well with you all.
Recently I have gotten a puppy and he just seems so shy all the time is this just a new born trait that they grow out of or is it something that I should be concerned about. All of the rest of the dogs seem playful except him. Any tips on how to get him out of this stage?
