Hello! On Saturday, we adopted an about 1-year-old dog, Pomeranian mix, who was very much coddled and babied his first year. The first day he was nervous of course but actually settled in okay, hung out with both of us just fine. On Sunday, things shifted dramatically. He has really attached to my spouse and if I come near both of them he starts to growl and will sometimes lunge at me. If it is just him and I, he is pretty much fine, we even went on a walk together and he was okay with me petting him. Right now, he will follow my wife around everywhere. We want to correct these things immediately and not reinforce his attachment with my wife. I guess we're not even sure if he's angry with me because he's fearful or truly being protective.
We are really looking to just be pointed in the right direction here, finding a dog trainer is difficult these days with COVID-19. We want to make sure we aren't inadvertently reinforcing bad behaviors and some ideas what to do if he does start growling (do I stay there and let it pass, do I walk away, does she walk away, etc.) Should he be on the couch next to her? Those kinds of things. Thanks very much!
