I have two puli puppies; not really a breed known for being destructive. Like all pups they do tear stuff up when they're bored but I play with them tons so that has literally only happened a handful of times.
I work 12 hour nights and initially had a dog sitter that would come in about an hour after I left and then go to her other job either a few hours before I got home or would take a nap when I got home and then go start her day. Then she started having a bunch of "emergencies"; she'd get there late, have to leave super early, not be able to show up at all etc etc so I'd watch my little monsters on the furbo for the ungodly long time they were alone.
It got to the point where they'd be home 8 hours because something came up with her and, after watching them a few weeks via camera, I cancelled her and didn't look for another. They'd play together until about 9, use the doggy door, sleep until 5, go back out then nap until my car pulled in.
About a week and a half ago I got a roommate. The agreement was basically free rent in exchange for dog sitting but phrased more eloquently.
I waited until I had 5 days off in a row to move her in so the pups could adjust and they seem to really like her. When I'm home they'll go to her occassionally (which is high praise; they're a herding breed that I got because I was lonely after a move across the country so I took their general velcro dogness and.. well, they're super velcro.) and they don't seem upset by her.
So I go to work and that's when the destruction started. At first it was a chair they had messed up during teething and I wrote it off because they love wood and we hadn't gone to collect sticks recently.
Then it was 2 armchairs and a leather sofa and now I'm like, "wtf".
I'm very confused because, when they were home alone, nothing was destroyed. When we're all home, nothing is destroyed. When I go to work and leave them with the roommate, suddenly the house is being torn apart.
I don't understand what's going on and would like any insight into their behavior.
