My puppy is drowning the kennel in his own slobber!

Hello! My 8 month old boxer is currently training to become a service. He's doing great!
But when I leave him unattended in his kennel, which I rarely do, he licks the side of the kennel. He licks to the point of slobber dripping from the towel when I clean.
I've tried letting a chew toy in the kennel, I've tried putting him in his kennel more often while I'm home. Nothing!
I'm out of ideas; any advice is greatly appreciated.
