Help with introducing new dog to resident cat

Post Body

We just adopted a 9 month old, 55 pound mastiff mix(Nova). Before her we have had a cat(Fiona) for about 4ish years. We moved into a new house about 2 months ago and Fiona has adapted to it well.

We are crating Nova during the day and keeping Fiona in the bedroom while we are at work.

So far when we try introducing them is Nova will be in her kennel and we'll let Fiona walk around and try to approach Nova, but Nova seems to get anxious/nervous and start to bark which causes Fiona to run back upstairs.

I've read about having them on separate sides of the door with a baby gate between them, but how would I be able to introduce the two if when Nova barks, Fiona runs away?
