Hello ! I recently adopted a one year one "cute dog" aka we have no idea what breeds he is compiled of but he's super cute and a good boy so I don't really care.
We start basic training classes the first week of August but are working basics at home as well - he does really well inside he house and even the backyard considering we've had him about a week and changed his name (I'm not expecting greatness right now at all) but when we go on walks we can not regain focus when he sees another dog.
He loves other dogs and think everyone wants to play and be his new best friend which I want to keep because we have a lot of friends with dogs and want him to join us on play dates and such but I also need him to be able to "ignore" dogs when we are walking or when we go to class.
I've tried redirecting him with treats but he could care less about food when he's on a walk and he really isn't tog motivated- does anyone have any suggestions to begin the process of calming him down when he sees another dog ?
