Indifferent to dogs as a child, uncomfortable around them as an adult

Post Body

As the title said, when I was a little kid I only had ONE bad experience with a dog. I was probably three and a bigger dog ran up to me when I was getting out of the car and started barking at me and I started crying. The dog did not bite or scratch me but made me very uncomfortable. I was not used to dogs. I wasn’t raised around them. I had neighbors with dogs but they never really came up to me or bothered me. That experience didn’t make me hate dogs. I could watch dog movies and admire dogs when I did think of them at all. I had some stuffed dogs but I did not think of them as different than any other stuffed animal.

I didn’t start realizing how much I really didn’t like dogs until I was 15 and a neighbors rescue dog made me really uncomfortable. They could tell I was uncomfortable but wouldn’t put it away. Then we had a bunch of new neighbors move in across the street and all of them had dogs and I became annoyed at them running around unleashed. I also made some friends a few years later with dogs that made me uncomfortable. I’d think it would be opposite that I’d be scared as a child but indifferent now. But for the most part it’s the opposite. Anyone else’s disliking of dogs start later?
