I interned on a property where the internship took place in a guest house, however the bathroom and everything was in the main house, along with the German Shepherd. (Side note: The dogs owner was not my âemployerâs â, but a family members.)This wouldnât have been a problem if the dog was decent and/or put away, but no the dog was always roaming and met whoever walked in with hostile barking and growling. I met the dog prior with the owner, but the dog only listens to the owner and during my time being there, I had many times I had to go in their alone.
For my personal experience using the restroom was a nightmare. The dog would bark while I walked in , would bark at the door while i was in the restroom. I would then have to gather up courage to open the door to deal with the dog as I left.
One time the dog was preoccupied with the person I helped out but, heard me open the bathroom door. He came running towards the sound as I was exiting and we both turned the corner at the same time startling one another. He jumped at me and I had to push his head away and down so he wouldnt be near my face but I still felt a slight pinch, he had nipped at my stomach. The dog got yelled at to lay down and that was the end of that.
I donât go there for that reason and some other factors, however I donât think that arrangement is okay considering clients have to go to the main house as well. I had to take clients to the main house and even large guys were uneasy about the dog and based on the dogs behavior its best to keep people safe by eliminating the interaction.
