I attend a public university in California that allows people (the general public) to run/bike whatever through the campus. Because it’s California there are no sanctioned smoking sections. Today as I was leaving by bike I see a medium/ large dog running towards me with no leash. The bike I ride is on the larger side and dogs get aggro over it on the reg. I ride past it looking for the owner. The man is on a bike riding through one of the main outdoor causeways and I was ready to unload on the owner of this loose hound. “Put your fucking dog on a leash” I wanted to scream but we were going opposite directions and it was crowded so I just went home. I’m a cigarette smoker and I understand that to be “considerate of others” I ought to go to where I can smoke properly. That means going technically off campus. What’s got me riled up is that the stste has deemed my go to stress reducer a public health hazard I have to go out of the way to indulge myself. I’m fine with this but I’m awfully triggered by the hypocrisy of the toleration of unleashed dogs (a public safety concern) and the demonization of cigarettes and those who smoke them.
