Is a second dog a good choice in this case, and if it is what breed?
Post Body

So my mother had been afraid of dogs for the longest time, until last summer my parents got a Labrador retriever(Named Nova). She instantly fell in love with him, and bonded really quickly. Now I'm about to move out(just to clarify: he is 100% not my dog, and my mother knew I want to move out soon when we got it), and my mother was afraid Nova will be more lonely, she thinks getting a second dog is a good way to prevent that since Nova loves to play with other dogs.

He is a smaller(for a lab), very very active and very friendly dog
