Moose (3 yr old GS/ akita mix) is a great dog, i trained her well, and she confidently makes her own choices about what she wants. When we are home she brings toys over and wants to play, lays her head on the bed when she wants to cuddle (though she rarely actually cuddles she just wants to be close), and knows how to ask for food. For almost the entirety of the first 2 years i’ve had her she has been an absolute maniac from separation anxiety despite my training efforts. I’ve bought 3 cages, 2 muzzles, and have lost security deposits on 2 apartments because she tore up the window sill while anxiously looking for me to come home. My gf and I have moved into the new complex and the only difference is that before, living with her, moose was always able to have someone visit, check on her within a 4 hour time. Whether it be roommates during college, when i stayed with exes, my bestfriend, or even a neighbor, this would be the first time she is in a room by herself alone for 8 hours. to keep her happy and in routine i take her outside for about 30 minutes before work though she prefers to just go to the bathroom and come lay down since it’s early and she needs her beauty rest. She comes in gets water and goes to her cage. Major difference now is that i leave the door open to the cage but the bedroom door closed with “Lucky Dog” playing on the TV. In the room i leave about 2-3 enrichment toys of meat wrapped in old shirts and socks she has to unfold and sniff through to get. But after the toys she starts crying loudly in nearly 10 minute intervals before she lays back down and gets up 10 minutes later. I watch her do this at work for almost the whole day. Now she isn’t tearing up anything, she doesnt use the bathroom in the house and I take her out immediately right after work and we go play with her squirrel frisby and flirt pole for about 30-45min. Is there anything more to do, or is she just lonely and its a sign to get another pup 😅(**she’s getting spayed next friday. I waited because i wanted her to fully mature.)
