So my dog has a very large eye ulcer. As soon as it appeared I took her to the vets and she now has antibiotic/ aesthetic/ anti inflammatory eye drops. I'm supposed to put them in 6 times a day for 10 days. It's been 4 days now and the task has become almost impossible. She is an older rescue and has some behavioral issues that flare up when she feels threatened or restrained. She is also a 32Kg boxer/sharpei cross, so not small. Now that she's understood how it goes down with the drops she is 100% uncooperative to the point of snapping when the bottle comes near her. I've tried a muzzle but she worked that one out quickly and does the same when it gets close to her. Even if we do manage to muzzle her (the vet did in order to sedate her to check for foreign bodies in her eye), we literally have to bodily wrestle her to stay still while she's examined/treated. It would be torture to do that 6 times each day. When she's not feeling physically threatened she's a wonderful sweet dog. Though very very stubborn. I've tried bribing with meat, cuddling and gently trying to put the drops in, tempting her to look up and sneaking one in. Nothing seems to work. The vet has told me that I absolutely must put these drops in or her ulcer is going to take ages to heal. I just spent an hour stroking her head with the bottle being close to her eye/ gently dropping drops on her face hear her eye and rewarding each time. As soon as she feels like the drop is going towards her eye she is just not having it and starts getting tense or doing warning air-bites. I've used half the bottle already due to the amount of drops that are landing everywhere other than her eye. How can I make this work without traumatizing her or getting bitten? What will happen to her eye if I don't manage to get enough drops in? This is so stressful.
