At night, even if all the lights are on in my apartment, I am constantly imaginging, against my will, like there's something in the apartment with me.
If I walk past a door way, I can't help but feel like something was peeking around the frame at me, or standing half behind the door at me. I constantly feel like.
If I turn my head, I'll see another face of something leaning its head over my shoulder.
If I'm walking down a hallway, I suddenly can convincingly hear something running up behind me.
And if I wake up at night, especially when the door is open and it's dark, I 100% believe in the moment something is standing in it looking at me and will hold my eyes closed.
For a while I slept with my blinds open and curtain pulled so I could wake up and see the sunlight and outside world immediately. Made things less liminal and worked great. Then I got sudden feelings like "Something's outside staring up at me" and stopped. Granted, I live in a less good neighborhood, so it's probably for the better. Only felt somewhat okay because I'm on the second floor.
All these effects are much worse in the dark. So much I don't turn the lights off in my room at night. And I have to run to my room, essentially, when turning the lights out in other rooms.
It can be very unnerving to constantly feel the presence of a creepy figure near you when you're alone.
