Today's Dodger of the Day is third baseman John Karst.
This one'll be super short. John Karst was born October 15, 1893, in Philadelphia and attended Penn.
This man had a short as hell baseball career. He received a trial with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1914, but was sent down to the Portsmouth truckers of the Virginia League. He played 10 games for the Truckers, going .182 with six hits.
He signed with the Robins for the 1916 season, but an injury early in the season kept him out until October.
Karst never batted for the Robins. He played in one game: October 6, 1915, as a defensive replacement at third base for Gus Getz. It was the second game of a doubleheader in Philadelphia. The Robins lost 3-2.
He played with the Troy Trojans/Harrisburg Islanders the next year and then his baseball career was over.
Karst died May 21, 1976, in New Jersey.
...that's it. At least his sole major league game was in his hometown, I guess.
I listened to What's My Age Again on repeat when writing this. I barely made it through three loops before being done.
