He called the Dodger's 9-1 opening day loss to the Phillies at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. He was joined on the call by Red Barber and Connie Desmond.
After Barber joined the Yankees' crew in 1953 and Desmond was fired before the 1955 World Series, Scully became the sole voice of the Dodgers.
