So we've been to a vet a couple of times and they pretty much said that the skin issues are not food related thankfully. I'm begging my partner to stop taking our doberman to a local park everyday to try and rule out if possibly his issues are something in the grass there. But that has been an uphill battle because there aren't many options.
The last couple times this has happened we have just taking him to the vet and got I'd rather expensive allergen shot. It only lasts about 6 to 8 weeks but it does work.
I've been giving him 180 mg of fexofenadine or Allegra.
I did some research online recently because the way his toes look was kind of funky and there was some things online that pointed to a zinc deficiency which Doberman Pinschers are I guess susceptible to?
First it starts with his feet typically, then he's scratching behind his elbows and rubbing his face on the furniture because it itches to the point where he bleeds and we have to put a cone on him. Yesterday I just noticed he had these kind of subdermal balls under his neck right underwear his collar sits. He has a thick leather collar that's about 2 in wide. It's not on him tight and he's never had issues there before... that I've noticed. I could go down to his elbow on the back of his leg and squeeze the irritated spot and it would pop almost like a zit and ooze. 😔
We thought it was food-related so we switched it and it didn't help. He is on a grain-free diet. Kasiks brand wild salmon, chicken and I think it was a beef option that we swap out once in awhile. We also started giving him a raw egg with his kibble just to help with any skin issues.
Has anyone had an experience like this or had a Doberman that was zink deficient?
