Rifle has multiple functions

"Normal Mode": Typical sniper rifle

"Fuck Everything Mode": Supercharged energy cannon, with damage tracked by a system designed for modeling tank guns and artillery

Normal Mode is inferior by every possible metric, and only exists because Fuck Everything Mode is frowned upon in civilized society, since it tends to destroy everything around and behind the target. Firing weapons of that power level at unarmored humans is seen as ghoulish overkill and dangerously psychotic

I get up on a roof and try to take out the target using Normal Mode

Never let it be said that roided-up mercenaries can't be civically minded.

Line up my shot

Roll nice and high

Shot bounces off target's chest

And an energy sword

The whole mission was a setup for the NPC cyber-knight bad guy and the GMPC cyber-knight good guy to have a duel

There are some mooks to shoot at, and everyone who might be a civilian is running like hell

Never switch it back again, ever, on that character or any other character I ever play in Rifts.
