> Be me, new DM

> Be not me: half-elf wild mage, human cleric, high elf rogue, half-orc barbarian, human monk

> Party fights a large group of goblins in their first dungeon crawl

> Final goblin flees after all his friends are killed

> Party chases him down and traps him for interrogation (they’re searching for a blacksmith’s missing daughter)

> Goblin doesn’t speak any common, so wild mage casts comprehend languages

> I ask the player if the spell allows him to speak said languages, he’s unsure

> We read the spell description, it doesn’t specify anything about being able to speak additional languages

> Player of the cleric suggests an interesting mechanic

> Wild mage should roll a d10 whenever he attempts to speak to the goblin

> On a 10, he speaks the phrase in perfect “goblinese”. On a 1, the phrase is completely unintelligible

> This leads to an unexpectedly comedic interrogation

> Goblin keeps interpreting things the wild mage is saying as death threats or irrelevant questions because of low rolls

> All of us are loving it

> They end up getting the information that they needed, but now they’ve become attached to the goblin

> They found out that his name is Erkka, but started calling him Jeremy

> Party decides to show him mercy (they could have easily killed him, crossbow leveled at his chest and everything)

> Wild mage gets him to drink a sleep potion that they found in the dungeon

> The party leaves some rations and a water skin for when Jeremy wakes up, leave him to sleep peacefully

> Mfw wholesome D&D
