Be playing with a friend in his first campaign
Friend is a psion, and is super ditsy (in real life, which reflected greatly upon his character)
Sneaking down into a dungeon, friend is going first
Going down a flight of stairs, doorway at the end
Pitch black, going by feel
As friend gets to doorway, DM says there's weird noises coming from the room and tells him to roll a stealth check
Natural 20
Friend: "Too bad I won't be able to see in there, better crack a glowstick"
DM: "You sure you wanna do that?"
Friend: "Yeah, might as well. I crack it and throw it into the room"
DM: "You see one of these. From your knowledge Arcana, you recognize it as a boneclaw. It sees the light and notices you by the door."
I check friend's character sheet and see he has darkvision
Friend: "Oh...." Turns around to us, "Guys, it's a boneclaw."

That is indeed the standard Necromorph from Dead Space.
