So I’ve been playing DND for a while now. Had my first taste with 2nd edition, was an avid follower of 3/3.5 (I have a literal library of books), 4th, Pathfinder, and now 5th.
I’ve always enjoyed playing more martial characters, but I have always always struggled with them. They just get outshined by spellcasters way too easy. Casters have narrative changing powers. AND they can toss handfuls of dice worth of damage as well. In 3rd and Pathfinder there were a number of ways to up a Martial’s game to at least give a bit of that feel. Most importantly through the Tome of Battle/Path of War supplements. In 5th...we really don’t get any of that. Sure, you can shake a stick real good...but at the end of the day that’s it.
Please tell me there’s something I’ve missed. I’ve looked at the home brews to being ToB into 5th as subclasses, but most of the ones I’ve seen pale in comparison to what they were...and being homebrew my DM just wouldn’t go for it. Am I doomed to either just stay a mediocre beat nick, or re-class into a martial caster type?
