We all got together on Sunday to play more of our Dragon of Icespire Peak adventure, and the session was a blast. They took on the Butterskull Ranch quest, and cleared it, no problem. The Halfling Bard, however, in the middle of the first combat Charmed an Orc. At first it was no real issue, because now the party basically had a ticking timebomb, and they knew it.
However, while the Dwarf Fighter was looking around for Big Al, the Bard was asking his new friend, Fang, about the remaining Orcs, and any tribes in the area. Me thinking about a potentially fun reference, decided to have Fang inform the Bard about a band of Orcs led by Master Blaster. "His name's Master Blaster? "No, no, no. My friend's name is Blaster, the little-one who rides on his back, is Master. Get it?" "Little One?" "Like you! Master..." he mimes something riding on his shoulder, "...Blaster!" Fang just points to himself. "Together, they're Master Blaster! They lead the tribe so well!"
I almost immediately recognize my mistake, but it's too late. So, long story short, my players charmed an Orc, after the charm wore off during combat, the Dwarf (with -3 to Charisma checks!) is able to convince Fang mid-combat that the party meant him no harm, and the Bard is later able to fully convince Fang to join the party (the DC I set was 20, and our Bard got 21).
But Fang knows he helped in the bloody murders of his kinsmen, and is totally reeling from the fact. I don't know how, but they befriended an Orc and simultaneously gave him PTSD.
