So I got to thinking the other day how much of an influence other pop culture or media has had on my own homebrew game, and wondered what other DM's used and what you happily added into your world whole or piece meal to craft your current adventure/homebrew?
For me it was a large portion of the Malazan Books of the Fallen, characters as NPC's, religion, a physical deck of dragons that they can use in game, races like Teblor and Jhagut. Then for big NPC to help the party characters drew on David Gemmel books and made a himbo bugbear version of Druss and a old man wolverine style Waylander.
Beyond that my party are currently killing what they think are the big bads, but are just corrupted by arrogance DND versions of the Avengers based on an amazing homebrew I found online.
So what did you add to your character or world that was from somewhere else? have your characters/players figured it out yet?
