My recent post summarizing today's One D&D announcement makes it apparent (to me) that WOTC's absence of pdf support for their physical releases is consumer-unfriendly, to put it diplomatically.
Even if it has to be limited to sales on their website or via a LGS, I would like a pdf copy that I can keep on multiple devices versus a website I have to go through (even if said website allows offline copies).
**Edit. Anti-piracy is not an excuse for WOTC. I recently bought Thirsty Sword Lesbians via a LGS, and I was emailed a pdf code for the game not even a day later. If the makers of Thirsty Sword Lesbians, and other games I've received similar codes through, can manage this, then WOTC can too!
Edit 2: Electric Boogaloo. While I appreciate the questions, if you cannot see some advantage (maybe not a complete one, but some) to having access to a pdf file that isn't tied to D&D Beyond and cannot be revoked through a site or account termination, then we are at an impasse. In my mind, WOTC does not deserve excuses for their horrendous history of digital content supplementation with 5E, given that D&D Beyond is not THAT old in its lifespan. Also, I can get a host of older D&D edition content as pdfs on DriveThruRPG, do why not 5E too?
