A player of mine is playing this really awesome take on a Wareforged ranger - he's basically a reanimated Treant, and I wanted to reward him for coming up with such a creative character. In our next session I'm going to have them encounter a group of Myconids that have been affected by an alchemist polluting their ancestral home- and I was wondering if, generally speaking, mushrooms and trees would get along lol.
In the natural world, do mushrooms compete for resources with plant life? In my head they are very similar, but I remember from biology class that mushrooms are basically an entirely different kingdom - and so now I'm curious if the two species feed off each other, or are mushrooms ever considered a parasite to other plans? What do you guys think, would there be kinship, or rivalry between the two species?
