What word would you use for someone getting officially recognized by their church as a Paladin?

So, I'm not the biggest expert on D&D lore or how religions typically operate beyond the surface level.
I'm writing the backstory of this paladin and felt unsure of the proper terminology.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but when someone is made a paladin by their respective church are they ordained? Is that the word you use for any officially recognized clergy position or only certain ones like priest, minister, etc?
