So I just brought a new player into my group and they asked about homebrew. I said I'd look over it and, once I did, I initially said no. They then said that they'd be willing to change a few things if it meant that they got to play their character, since they'd been wanting to play this character for a while. So I've been trying to balance it accordingly. The setting is a fantasy time period, magic is common, but not overwhelming. Guns were just introduced, but very simple guns, from piratey times (one shot flintlocks and rifles).
The homebrew is linked below,, for reference. I've got some things down that I thought were fair changes, but I wasn't sure. Furthermore, there was just something I was stuck on and wasn't sure what to do about: the ability to heal 2d6 hp of the vehicle by using mending. I didn't knownif I should change that or not.
Here were my proposed changes so far:
-First, in regards to assembling the vehicle, you must have materials. Pulling it out of thin air seems a bit much. So your smiths tools will include materials, weighing 50lbs. If you do not have the materials, but you have smiths tools, you may expend a 5th level spell slot or higher to create the vehicle, fully charged. If the vehicle gets destroyed after being built this way, it simply breaks apart as normal, but vanishes after a turn.
-The Support configuration Sensory Nodes feature I would change to only apply to perception (wisdom) and investigation (intelligence) checks, but also permit the vehicle to be considered to have dark vision out to 120ft.
-The vehicle is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance, immunity, and anti-magic areas. If the vehicle is affected by an anti-magic effect, it simply stops. If it was conjured by the use of a 5th level spell slot or higher, it vanishes and can be resummoned using an action. If 10 minutes passes before it is resummoned, then it must be summoned using a 5th level spell slot or higher or built using physical materials, as usual.
Do these seem reasonable? Are there any other changes I should make? Is there something I'm missing. Please ask for clarification if you aren't sure about what I mean about something or other. I'm just not sure exactly what to do.
