So.

Sunday I will be popping my GM cherry. I've never done so before, and I'm really really excited and partially nervous because I legitimately have no idea what to expect

Having said that, I feel the most exciting and rewarding aspect is creating a world that my players can enjoy, and truly have fun in, with creativity and imagination abound

Having said that.....

The discussion came up about.... a bard using less than traditional instruments. Namely, a kazoo.

"But that's totally anachronistic" you might have thought briefly.

But I'm 100% on board, as here's why.

The majority of instruments have at least some predecessor that has influenced their creation. The piano came from a harpsichord. Flutes have been around in a variety of iterations since 37,000 years ago. Drums are available in every size and shape and just about every material under the sun.

It is believed that the kazoos closest relative is the African version of a mirliton: the horn-mirliton. The building materials of the horn-militon were of a more primitive nature. The tube was made out of the horn of a cow and the membrane consisted of the egg-shells of spiders.

The first mirlitons in Europe were the "eunuk"-flutes from 17th and18th century. König Ludwig von Bayern had an enormous 2.13 meter long mirliton build for use in a Wagner opera. To construct this mirliton the king imported extremely "fat" eunuks from the kingdom of Ottoman to do the job.

So why not?
