I like to pit my players against actual people, and, as such, make character sheets for those enemies the same way players make theirs. I've done so with some success, but it felt like I was cheating for the players because my level 3 party would no doubt lose to a well placed Fireball, and I chose to instead banish two of them. I feel like I still don't have the hang of this, so I'd like your opinion as to what the level difference between a single boss and a 4 or 5 players party should be to make a difficult but fair encounter.
