Does it say anywhere how many spell slots one can burn to smite on a single attack. Smiting is not any kind of action, so can one hit and then just burn 4 lvl 1 slots to smite for 8d8? The 5d8 rule seems to be about a single slot, not total for the entire damage. Please answer with reference to the rule or page.
