(Still getting used to reddit, accidentally deleted my post thinking it was one of the saved drafts. I promise im not trying to spam this or anything. Again i just deleted it on accident.)
Im new to Reddit but lately i've been reminiscing on one of my past games, my second ever DnD game to be specific, and well i thought id give writing down the story of The Frontier Men and their adventures in the hopes others will enjoy hearing about this band of idiots turned legends. I'll state that im not the greatest writer so do go easy on me when it comes to my grammar and punctuation. Lastly i do have art of two of the characters in this story but im gonna hold off on sharing them for now. Anyways lets start this tale of adventure!
Our story begins in a land called the Frontier with the announcement of the annual Black Unicorn hunt starting in a few days. My character, Lucas Aubergine, a average height human ranger with a foreign look to him arrives in a small village on his way to the city of Ember where this hunt is held. Now Lucas is from a far off land which goes by the name "The County" and this place is based off a version of medieval Lancashire in the book series titled The Last Apprentice.
The County is a place plagued by darkness, old primal magic, witches, and all manner of creatures that go bump in the night. Not many knew of this place so Lucas seemed a bit odd to those he met. He had a strong disliking of magic and had trouble trusting those who used it as he was unfamiliar with the more refined magics of the Frontier.
Upon arriving in this little village Lucas made his way to the tavern and made himself comfortable with some tea as he watched the others walk in. Three people in specific entered the tavern that night, a Wood Elf Cleric whose gender was ambiguous, a large and imposing Half Orc Barbarian with long scars across his chest, and a posh looking Elven Wizard who just smelled of arrogance. Lucas paid these three no mind and went about his business until a Wizard carrying a dwarf burst into the tavern. The Wizard wore a blue robe and a long pointed hat, both adorned with large stars and moons. The Dwarf looked sick and pale, venom leaking from a wound on his body giving away what happened.
Since monster hunting was his job Lucas went to help the Wizard asking "What happened? Any idea what attacked him?" things like that. The Wizard responded "Yes it was a large spider thats made a cave near by its nest. I cant make a cure without fresh venom...will you help?". Lucas agreed since he had a duty to uphold even if he wasnt in his homeland. The others agreed to join in and help as well but Lucas was apprehensive about it. However they went along anyways and soon arrived in the cave.
Inside the cave where a few undead, the majority of which where easily dispatched by the four adventurers. However they soon came upon a daunting creature, an undead Ogre wielding a massive mace. Lucas decided to hide and take pot shots at it with his bow while the Orc, who he learned was called Forest, threw rocks at it. The Ogre eventually died and the party dropped down to investigate the body. Forest, like the barbarian he was, decided to try and pick the Ogres mace up but failed due to its weight. Lucas on the other hand found the right grip for the mace and was able to lift it with ease.
After killing a few more Undead, Lucas and the party moved onward into the cave. Eventually entering the spiders lair. Turns out it was a Phase Spider that lived there. Its eggs and webs lining the walls with a large hole in the center of the room. Lucas took up position in a tree and waited for the spider to get close. When it did he jumped down on it and swung the mace onto the spider hurting it and causing it to phase away. The Cleric and Barbarian helping with the fight while the mages spells seemed to keep missing.
Eventually Lucas was lucky enough to land the killing blow, sliding under the Phase Spider and breaking its legs with his mace before turning around and swinging the mace down on the spiders head killing it. Once it was dead the Wizard, Damien as he'd come to learn, set the nest on fire to kill the eggs. Lucas thinking he could earn some coin off the eggs or maybe something else decided to grab one before they all burned. He succeeded and now had a glowing Phase Spider egg with him....the Wizard was not happy about this.
Eventually they return to the tavern with venom in tow, Lucas having filled a separate waterskin with some venom for use later. The wizard thanked them and told them his name "Bogfulblam's the name, and i thank you for your help. I owe you all a great debt." and he payed this debt by giving Lucas some books on wildlife and monsters for the frontier. He gave Damien his old spellbook and he paid Forest and the Cleric known as Varis in gold. After that they all rested, Lucas training with his new weapon, Damien being useless, Forest eating, and Varis selling fake health potions to the elderly in the village.
They would soon set off together for Ember since they all wished to hunt the Black Unicorn. Lucas wasnt keen on this but he'd grown a little close to the lovable idiot that was Forest and he found the confusing beauty of the Wood Elf mesmerizing. As for Damien he tolerated him for he was a magic user and up till now Bogfulblam was the only magic user Lucas had considered a good person he could trust.
More adventures await this wayward party and while the details arnt all clear the important things they did still live on in memory. If you liked this and wanna hear more about this group please say so, my memory of the conversations that happened and the events that transpired will become clearer the farther i go so if this part felt slow or boring its cause i didnt remember most of the first session. Anyways thanks for reading!
