It was our groups first real D&D game as opposed to just a D20 table top and our DM was very excited to have us explore his new world, our party of three consisted of a elven wizard (me) a dragon born Ork and a dwarven cleric. We had woken up in a heavily guarded cave but the NPCs were neutral right now so That we could explore. We were given a simple task of going east to participate in the fights at the great arena and earn some gold. However our cleric wanted wanted to go West first just to explore. Our DM encouraged us to stick to the quest but his style is very open and he allowed us to continue. Four hours of grinding later we arrived at a graveyard only to find a single entry standing in front of a glowing white obelisk. The entity was polite but cynical and undead which naturally made our dwarven cleric very uncomfortable. Our cleric attacked the entity and the entity laughed shrugged us off and vanished. Leaving us with the obelisk which was giving off dark energy of the undead according to a check I did. Because we had come this far our group decided the obelisk needed to be destroyed, a feat our DM assured us would not be easy. Our dragon born used a strength check to smash it with a large tomb stone I cast my most powerful spell and our dwarf channeled All of his strength and holy powers into his battle axe and threw it. We all got natural 20s we decimated the obelisk which sent out a shock wave across the world killing every NPC and bringing them back as zombies with a 100% increase in there stats. We were ducked hard on this one. Our DM said he didn’t expect us to go to that until near the end of the campaign and after we had cleared most of the NPCs out. Needless to say after another 5 hours of trying we were unable to beat the campaign.
