I'm going to teach a group of teenagers how to play D&D. Any advice on how to effectively teach new players how to play would be greatly appreciated!

I'm going to be giving a workshop to a bunch of kids aged 12-16 about D&D, with the intention of firstly teaching them what the game is like, and in a second workshop teaching them some of the basic rules and mechanics. I've introduced some people to D&D in my time, but not very well. I'd love to get some input from you guys on how to best do this!
