My group just finished Lost Mines of Phandelver. The party was promised by the Rockseekers a percentage of all profits from the mine and now the group intends to use Phandalin as a home base as they continue to collect their wealth. I let the group decide what module to play next and they decided on Tomb of Annihilation.
How do I convince my party to leave their cushy life in Phandalin?...
I'm going to kill them.
Syndra comes to Phandalin seeking aid. The party will likely refuse because my players are selfish dicks. I'm going to have Venomfang (a green dragon who had escaped from the party before) attack Phandalin and destroy the town. The party will move to defend their home and this time defeat the dragon only to discover Venomfang had something planned to ensure his revenge in the event he is defeated. Venomfang augmented his body so that he explodes in a poisonous cataclysm on death. The fight with the Dragon and ensuing explosion should kill my players. Syndra will then resurrect the dead, inform them of the Death Curse, and the party will be off to Chult to stop the Soulgorger before they wither and die.
