Thoughts on a Shadow Monk multiclassed with Cleric?
Post Body

  • Background: I just got invited to join a Curse of Strahd campaign that's already at level 6 and doesn't have much in the way of healing. *

So I really like the 'shadow step' ability of said monks and I think playing a monk looks pretty cool in general but I'm not necessarily wanting to RP a serious ninja or a broody assassin. My original concept for why a shadow monk would be out adventuring with a party was that they basically got kicked out of ninja assassin school for being to cheerful, or not wanting to murder people on the orders of other people.

So a little lighthearted if not outright goofy of a character and probably with a short attention span. Then I thought that a multiclass into cleric could be really fun for RP as the dichotomy of darkness and light works well for a guy dishing out heals and really trying to put a lot of effort into praying and following a God(dess) whilst also 'regressing' and beating the crap out of people with their fists.

I would introduce myself as a cleric of X (currently thinking Sehanine Moonbow or a different Life domain deity) making no mentioned being a monk at first as I'm trying to turn over a new leaf and fully embrace being a follower of X's teachings.

What do you guys think? Anyone had any multiclasses of a similar theme/hybrid character? Anything that you don't think would work?
