[5e] Question about Arcane Ward in Lost Mines of Phandelver

I'm playing as a wizard abjurer and I just acquired the Staff of Defense. I was wondering if the spell charges from the staff would count for (1) creating the arcane ward and (2) regaining ward hit points once it hits 0 hp?
This is my first ever campaign, so I'm a bit shaky on exactly how the ward works. :)
